2001 History
2010 History
The third annual "Amazing London Race" was a huge success. 17 Teams took part in a day filled with fun and excitement. Every team came with a desire to make this event bigger and better than last year. Teams competed in over 17 tasks (depending on eliminations) that took them all over the city of London (and to Lucan). We raised over $5000.00 for Mackayla's Fight For Sight and the Children's Health Foundation!!!!
I would like to thank all of the participant for making the day as successful as it was. I'd also like to thank the volunteers and entertainment at the first annual "Amazing London Rock & Ride" (Get Back, The Rock Collection, Ryan Starkweather & Jeff Shaughnessy, Kill Effect, Technical Difficulties and Four Star). Without all of you this event would just be a passing thought in my head.
2009 History
This past September, the 2nd annual 'Amazing London Race' took participants all around the city of London as they raised funds for “Mackayla’s Fight for Sight” and “The Children’s Health Foundation” in support of Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre. This event was held on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The day started and finished at our co-sponsor WADA Canada with teams departing early in the morning to explore London to complete their various tasks. The race was conducted in the same format as the hit CBS TV show “The Amazing Race”.
For this year’s race, 19 teams of 2 joined this annual event. Between the pledges raised and our BBQ & Concert event after the race hosted by Carolinian Winery, over $6500 was raised for these two great causes. We had some amazing weather for the event and each team came with a lot of enthusiasm and a competitive spirit. Everything combined, helped make this the success that it was. Our winning team, “Heart Attack” Jay and Terry, (two heart surgeons at LHSC) graciously donated their grand prize winnings ($500.00) back to the two charities. The top fundraisers for the event were Wilf and Judy Noordermeer, who raised a total of $1605 and were awarded a trip to Ottawa on VIA 1 courtesy of VIA Rail for their efforts.
The first annual “Amazing London BBQ & Concert”, was held at the home our co-sponsor; Carolinian Winery. We had live entertainment with comedy from Rene Payes and music from Ryan Starkweather & Jeff Shaughnessy and Cougar Friendly. Carolinian Winery’s own chef Mike Kerslake cooked a delicious southern style BBQ including pulled pork sandwiches, sausages, beef & bacon burgers and corn-on-the-cob.
2008 History
In 2008, a new event was held in London over the Labour Day weekend. The 1st annual 'Amazing London Race' took people all around the city of London as they raised funds for “Mackayla’s Fight for Sight” and “Sunshine Foundation”. This event was held on Sunday August 31st, 2008 and Monday September 1st, 2008. Both days started and finished at Friday Knight Lights with teams departing early in the morning to explore London to complete their various tasks. The race was conducted in the same format as the hit CBS TV show “The Amazing Race”. Racers and volunteers were treated to a great breakfast served by the owners of Friday Knight Lights, Tim Best and Anne Marie DeCicco-Best (Mayor of the City of London). Without them this event would not have happened.
For this first race, 5 teams of 4 joined the launch of this new annual event. Between the pledges raised, the BBQ & Car Wash held at Rona Home & Garden (sponsored by Foresters Hope Branch) and the silent auctions at the finish line, over $2500 was raised for these two great causes. We had some amazing weather for the event and each team came with a lot of enthusiasm and a competitive spirit. Everything combined, helped make this the success that it was. Our winning team, “Red Alert”, graciously donated their grand prize winnings ($250.00) back to the two charities. The top fundraiser for the event was Jeremy Goulet, who raised a total of $507 and was awarded a trip to Toronto for his efforts.
At the Finish Line on Sunday August 31 and Monday September 1, we were entertained with live music from Ryan Starkweather & Jeff Shaughnessy. Also, on Monday September 1 we were entertained by the "Janis Effect" and treated to a very special performance with "Canadian Idol" finalist and Canadian Recording artist Aaron Walpole.
